Trachea, bronchus, lung cancers

Overview : Trachea, bronchus & lung cancers

Respiratory cancers include trachea, larynx, bronchus, and lung cancer. Smoking, secondhand smoke and environmental toxins are the main causes. But domestic pollution such as fuel and mold also contribute.

Respiratory Cancer Impact Worldwide

A 2015 study reported that approximately 4 million people die annually from respiratory cancer. In developing countries, researchers estimate an 81- to 100 percent increase in respiratory cancer due to pollution and smoking. Many Asian countries, particularly India, still use coal for cooking. Solid fuel emissions account for 17% of lung cancer deaths in men and 22% in females.

Risk Factors and Prevention

Trachea, bronchus, and lung cancer can affect anyone, but they are most likely to affect those who have a history of smoking or tobacco use. Other risk factors for these cancers include family history and exposure to environmental factors, such as diesel fumes.

Apart from avoiding fumes and tobacco products, it is not known whether anything else can be done to prevent lung cancer. However, early detection can improve your outlook and reduce respiratory cancer symptoms.
