Dexamethasone emerges as the first Covid2019 life-saving drug: all you need to know

Coronavirus drug dexamethasone: Dexamethasone is a common steroid widely used in other diseases to reduce inflammation. The drug helps prevent some of the damage that can occur when the body’s immune system goes into overdrive as it tries to fight the coronavirus.

Coronavirus drug dexamethasone:

In a breakthrough in Covid2019 treatment; scientists in the UK have claimed that the generic steroid drug dexamethasone. Reduced the death of critically ill hospitalized patients by a third. The results are part of a UK-based RECOVERY trial; one of the world’s largest randomized trials of drugs to treat COVID2019 patients.

This is the same study revealed earlier this month; that the malarial drug hydroxychloroquine was not working against coronavirus.

In the trial, 2104 patients were given dexamethasone; led by a team from Oxford University. And compared with 4321 patients who did not receive the drug. The drug has been shown to reduce the risk of death by one-third for patients on ventilators; and those on oxygen, it cuts death by a fifth.

Is it expensive?

It is the only drug ever shown to reduce mortality. It significantly reduces it. This is a tremendous success: the BBC quoted chief investigator Professor Peter Horby as saying.

Dexamethasone is inexpensive; on the shelf, and can be used immediately to save lives worldwide.  Told by Peter Horby of Oxford University, a study leader.

There are currently no approved treatments or vaccines for Covid2019. A disease caused by the new coronavirus that has killed more than 431000 people globally.

You should know the Covid2019 drug Dexamethasone

What is Dexamethasone?

Dexamethasone is a common steroid widely used; in other diseases to reduce inflammation. The drug helps prevent some damage; when the body’s immune system goes into overdrive; as it tries to fight the coronavirus.

Steroid medicine has been prepared; (available) as a generic for many years. It is used to treat a variety of diseases to help arthritis, asthma, allergies, and even cancer patients. That better handle chemotherapy-induced nausea.

Steroid drugs reduce inflammation, which sometimes develops in Covid2019 patients as the immune system overreacts to fight infection. This tautology may prove lethal. So doctors are examining steroids, and other anti-inflammatory drugs; in the before-mentioned patients.

What has the Amet Dexamethasone test result shown?

The results showed that giving low doses of dexamethasone to patients reduced mortality by one-third among those with the most severe cases of infection.

The data shown for patients on ventilators has reduced the risk of death from 40 percent to 28 percent. For patients in need of oxygen, this cut the risk of death from 25 percent to 20 percent.

Researchers estimate that the drug will prevent; one death for every eight patients who arrive for treatment on breathing machines and one in every 25 patients on excess oxygen alone, AP reported.

This is a conclusion, that determines that if patients are on Covid2019. And ventilators or oxygen, given dexamethasone, it will save lives, and it will do so at a lower cost. As per Reuters extracted Martin Landre Said, as the Professor of Oxford Uni., co-head of the test stated.

However, dexamethasone does not appear to help people, with lactose symptoms of coronavirus. The people who do not need help breathing.

What is the price of Amet Dexamethasone?

In the US, the average retail price is less than $50 while in the UK, it costs around £5. There is a clear, obvious benefit. Treatment is up to 10 days of dexamethasone and costs £5 per patient. So it essentially costs £35 to save a life. It is a drug that is available globally;  Martin Landre told the BBC.
